It’s no secret that we hate Mondays. In fact we hate them so much, Sunday evenings sometimes start with Monday blues.

The problem with Monday is that it follows the weekend and breaks a streak of napping and lazing and snoozing and boozing. Also mostly, it marks the beginning of a work-week. (#BuzzKillMondays)

If you often find yourself forcefully dragging your ass to work on a Monday (or everyday!) while low-key praying that you didn’t have to, then here’s just what you need.

4 Ways You Can Motivate Yourself to Go to Work.

Number 1: Recall your 1st Day at Work.

Remember the day you walked into your workplace for the very first time? Nervous and excited, that day you imagined yourself acing this job, beating targets, rocking at meetings, grabbing opportunities and learning new things.

Step 1 — Relive that day in your head for 5 minutes to borrow some good energy from that feeling. (Bonus points if you can recall what you had for lunch that day, who were the 1st five people who were nice to you that day and how exactly you felt by the end of that day.)

Step 2— If you have achieved some of your goals ever since (no matter how small), thank yourself for being awesome. Also, show some gratitude to this job opportunity and proceed with the day like a conquerer.

If this recollection was as horrible as your present day at job and nothing seems to have worked out so far, you need to switch your job. And that is why you need even more motivation this week. You are going to alter your path, go on a job hunt or finally start that business you had in mind and this requires even more motivation. Read on. More power to you!

Number 2: Own up & Set Things Straight

If a missed deadline, a wrongly sent e-mail, or a goof up at work is looming over your head constantly then you need to get rid of that asap. Easier said than done, but you have to make this effort for yourself. Own up to your mistake, rectify it if you can, take full responsibility of the error (no BS) and start over.

Number 3: Think of at least 3 Short-term Goals.

Paycheque, vacation, a debt, career growth, promotion, networking, etc. are some examples. Don’t ever mistake them for burdens because they are not. Presently, they are just your motivators in your hustle. The more you hustle the more you learn. The more you learn the more you grow. And the closer you get to achieving what you truly deserve.

So run the day with pride and aim.

Number 4: Can’t think of a Goal? Incentivise.

If you don’t have a strong enough short-term goal (which btw should really not be the case and you need to definitely dig deeper and set a goal now!), give yourself some incentives. Maybe a more fun weekend could be your incentive.

Here’s how it works. Put deadlines to your tasks. For each deadline you meet, treat yourself with say, 2 episodes of a Netflix series on the weekend.

(Bonus points — If you are game for not just pulling through the week one day at a time, and instead for making your week really count then there’s more in store for you.

Analyse your work closely and if you notice that you have done something extra, achieved more than you had thought (by your own standards and don’t be too hard on yourself) or thrown in some creativity at your tasks then you deserve a bigger incentive. Maybe 2 seasons of that Netflix show!)

This makes the all the fun you have guilt-free. In fact it motivates you to up the game next week. It really does. Just keep introducing creative incentives to keep finding your motivation.

It would be great to know how this works out for you. If you want to add more points to the list, let me know (I will add them in the article with due credit :D ). So comment below and share the post with someone who could use some Monday Motivation.
